Part-Time Work and Self-Employment
Employees may end up working less than full time; 9% of those in the career did so in 2008. 3% of the time family social workers are self employed.
Training and Education
Finding jobs is easier for workers with a bachelor's degree. Recent government surveys (2008) show that 77% of employees have received at least a 4 year degree. Family social workers who attended college, but do not have a degree make up 16% of the total. A high school diploma was all the education obtained by 7% of workers. The earnings potential (not adjusted for cost of living) is highest in Waterbury (Connecticut), Norwich (Connecticut), and Hartford (Connecticut). However, the potential is lowest in State College (Pennsylvania), Santa Fe (New Mexico), and Corvallis (Oregon).
