...provides industrial labor staffing solutions to employers seeking to fill temporary positions in the Pacific Northwest. They operate from multiple locations in Oregon and Washington, and as a jobseeker all they say is "be here at 5:30 AM." They pay you daily, but you will work hard for that money. There may be some longer-term or even permanent positions they are working to help fill for a client. From what I've seen searching Google, one person who has worked with their crew says they only send out top-quality day labor, and the King County Library System (which includes Seattle and Bellevue, WA) lists them on their list of resources for job seekers.

Operated by the Center for California Studies, this program offers 64 fellowships in various positions in the state government of California. "Fellows in each program work for 11 months, receive health benefits and a monthly stipend of $1972 and are considered employees of CSUS. They work as full-time members of a legislative, executive, or judicial branch office, and are typically given assignments with a significant amount of responsibility and challenges. Fellows also enroll as graduate students at CSUS and receive 12 graduate credits from the CSUS Government Department or Public Policy and Administration Program." To be eligible, you must have a degree from a 4-year college and be a US citizen or permanent resident or hold a valid work visa. This is a yearly program with all applications due in February.

At the time of review, their website only listed current openings in California, so persons in these other states may want to contact their local offices regarding opportunities there. Please note that many of these positions require some experience, and all of them require you to work hard. They encourage you to apply online instead of trying to apply in person, and the Diversity information at the bottom of the application form is optional but it is helpful. Your personally identifiable information is not given to the EEOC.

started by service the San Francisco Bay area, but has expanded to cover more
cities. Part of Craigslist is a nice section for Jobs, but don't skip the Community
area with its volunteer opportunities and support features (like childcare). This
is one of those Internet sites that started out as a personal project to create a helpful
source of info but has turned into one of the better resources.
Founded 40 years ago in San Francisco, IPS recruits qualified personnel for the insurance industry. Along with permanent placement they do have some temp and temp-to-hire opportunities. Their primary market is California, but they may also handle assignments beyond that state. They have a list of current assignments you can review before submitting a resume for one job or for general consideration.

projects. Inclusion in their database is free of charge. Read all their info on how
they work and how you get assignments before you consider registering. Please note
that they are located in the Silicon Valley, and almost all of their opportunities are in that region.
While it's not necessary for you to live in that area, they suggest that it greatly improves your
chances of getting an assignment.

Started by Altres Staffing as an alternate employment resource, this is a free site where employers can post and job seekers can search for jobs. While it asks for your desired location, I can only find postings for Hawaii, so stick to that state. You will have to target specific cities or zip codes (just asking for Hawaii doesn't work, nor does the island names, but here's a full list of Hawaii's zip codes from Neighborhoodlink.com). You can search and view the jobs all you want, but you must register (free) in order to apply. This will also give you access to their application management tool, letting you keep track of the jobs for which you've applied. It's not bad.
