About The Riley Guide Founder -- Margaret F. Dikel

formerly Margaret F. Riley

Ms. Dikel founded The Riley Guide way back in 1994, right at the dawn of the explosion in the use of the world wide web, making it one of the web's oldest resources for job seekers. At that time she was working as a librarian with Worcester Polytechnic Institute. She wrote a detailed history of how she came to see the need for an online job and career resource for her students and how she developed the concept into the site it has become.

Ms. Dikel's expertise is as a librarian specializing in online information architecture, design, and searching. She has a Masters in Library Sciences (MSLIS).

From the time of the site's launch to building it as a premier directory she has worked at Worcester Polytechnic and as a private consultant for employment, career counseling, and career transition services. Her consulting experiences with diverse clients such as National Institutes of Health, US Department of Labor, Drake Beam Morin, and National Career Development Association helped guide her evolution of Riley Guide.

A few of her accomplishments include:

  • Co-Author with Debra Osborn, James P. Sampson, Jr., and JoAnn Harris-Bowlsbey, The Internet: A Tool for Career Planning (3rd edition, 2011: NCDA)
  • Recipient, 2011 JoAnn Harris-Bowlsbey Award for Excellence in the Field of Technology in Career Development (Career Development Leadership Alliance)
  • Co-Author with Frances Roehm, The Guide to Internet Job Searching (POP: McGraw-Hill)
