Improve your online job search and research by improving your Internet and computer skills!
Mailing List Manager Commands
..learn how to control your subscriptions to various mailing lists through this short guide. This is the original guide by Jim Milles, and while it is old you may still find useful information.
Bare Bones 101: A Very Basic Web Search Tutorial, University of South Carolina at Beaufort Library.
...a collection of concise lessons designed to help users get their Web searches on the right track quickly and easy. There are 20 independent lessons covering meta-searchers, subject directories, evaluating sites, Boolean logic, and field searching.
LivingInternet.com

The Essential Mac
...I'm not a Mac user. This site built by the South Shore Mac Users Group of Long Island, NY is a nice guide to learning the Mac and customizing your Mac your way. (but I thought it was so easy to use that you didn't need lessons...)

Internet Tools

WHOIS from Network Solutions and Whois-Search
...Wondering who is behind a web site? Looking for a contact name and / or address? Search their domain and find out who owns it. I do this a lot, running background checks on web sites, finding out interesting little things like the fact that 2 sites recommending each other with glowing terms but claiming they aren't related are actually run by the same company....
Root-Zone Whois Index by TLD Code
"TLD" means "Top Level Domain". This is a list of the 2-letter country codes you see in domain names that do not end in .com, .org, or the like. I like this list as a way to better identify where websites are located. This authoritative list is maintained by IANA, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority.
Internet Traffic Report
...what the heck is happening out there that these sites aren't responding? Find out.
NSLookup at Channel1.com
What's NSLookup? It's a way to find the IP or numerical address of a site for which you have the domain name. If you are having trouble connecting to a site and constantly get the message DNS not found, then try searching one of these for the IP address. If a site has a legitimate IP address, you should see something like this.
NSLOOKUP RESULTS:
Server: get.hooked.net
Address: 206.80.6.2

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: dbm.com
Address: 207.198.157.102

ClickZ Stats
...how many people are online in the Netherlands? How much money is being spent in online advertising? Who are the top online advertisers and banner ads? What else do you need to know statistically about the Internet? ClickZ may have the answer for you in their collection of surveys.
Pew / Internet: Pew Internet & American Life Project
...reports on how we are using the Internet in our lives, and predictions of future trends.
