...nice source of information for young journalists, especially those who want to pursue journalism as a career. The site is divided into areas titled Students, Teachers, Guidance, and Editors,and includes information on journalism careers, scholarships and awards, links to schools and organizations, and more. A service of the American Society of Newspaper Editors.

American Society of Journalists and Authors
...professional society for nonfiction writers. This page includes information on publishing and protecting your work, but the association offers a lot of support and resources for anyone in this field. Highly recommended from a friend of mine.
Colorbars Network

The Freelance Writing Jobs Network
Freelance Writing Jobs began in May 2005 as a way to help other writers, especially Work at Home Moms, find decent paying jobs. Operated by Deborah Ng, a freelance writer and professional blogger, this is a wonderful community and resource for anyone looking for gigs as a freelance writer or blogger. To find those listings, clock on Writing Job Leads at the top of the page or click on Blogging Gigs or Writing Gigs under the main title. Yes, the listings are actually separated into "writers" and "bloggers" with many more listings for writers than bloggers, so I suggest you keep your creative mind open to all writing possibilities. Lots of good advice here on writing, searching for gigs, and much more. No registration necessary unless you want to sign up for their "breaking news" enewsletter.

...news and jobs for the journalist or others in this industry (sales, circulation, editing, etc.), and not just for newspapers and print media. There are numerous writing / editing / other opportunities listed here from numerous sources including private foundations. Registration is not necessary for you to view or apply for jobs listed here but it will allow you to store a resume and track your searches.
National Writers Union
The NWU is a labor union that represents “freelance writers in all genres, formats, and media.” All working writers are eligible to join the union. Part of their service is the Job Hotline, a list of writing, authoring, and multimedia jobs in the United States. While anyone can view the list of jobs, the contact information for each employer is available only to members. Freelance writers will appreciate the many resources on the site, including the Alerts from the Grievance and Contracts Division.
NewspaperCareerBank.com
...a service of the Newspaper Association of America, whose members account for almost 90% of the daily circulation in the US, including the folks who print and deliver the paper as well as those who sell the ads. Visitors can search for and review the complete listing for all positions listed here, but most listings require you to register in order to apply for the job posted (some push you to the employer's website). Registration is free and if this is your field you may want that resume stored here.

...fantastic site with jobs and information for the entire broadcast industry. Unfortunately you can only view the job listings under TV Jobs for a fee. You can, however, put the call letters of your target stations in the search box and find their websites (and locally posted job listings) for free.
CareerPage: The Source for Broadcast Radio and Television Jobs
...a service of the National Alliance of State Broadcasters Associations, this site offers a free job bank for persons interested in working in broadcasting along with descriptions of jobs in the industry and advice on getting your first job. They also link to the many state broadcast association websites (many of which have their own job banks) and other related industry and association websites.
Jobs in Public Media from Current.org
Current is the website and newspaper about public TV and radio across the US. Their website includes the Help wanted and position wanted ads from the most recent print issue of Current plus a link to the jobs from the previous issue. These are all kinds of positions in public broadcasting stations (tv and/or radio) across the US. They also offer links to additional job resources in media and broadcasting. The list is rather out of date, but try it.
Filcro Media Staffing
...a retained search firm specializing in the broadcast industry. Qualified persons can learn more about the firm, review sample searches, and submit a resume through their website.
MediaWeek (UK)
...jobs for those in Media, including radio and television broadcasting, hosted in partnership with PeopleBank. This also has great industry info, including programming and manufacturing directories. Most of the jobs are UK-based, but the industry info covers all of Europe and in some cases the world.
National Association of Broadcasters
The National Association of Broadcasters is "a full-service trade association that promotes and protects free, over-the-air local radio and television stations' interests in Washington and around the world." The Career Center includes information on educational seminars, current jobs posted here, a resume database, links to additional broadcast job banks, and information for folks just starting out as well as others wanting to further develop their careers.

American Copy Editors Society
...a professional organization working toward the advancement of copy editors in newspapers, magazines, Web sites and other journalistic endeavors. "Our aim is to provide solutions to copy desk problems through training, discussion and an awareness of common issues." Among other offerings they have a job board, numerous forums covering topics like grammar, ethics, freelancers, small papers, and "general grousing". (Participation in the forums requires free registration.) They are currently developing a mentorship program. You must check out Charles Apple's blog. Some incredible commentary (and amusing headlines).

...very nice job board for copy editors and publication managers. A service of McMurry, a marketing services company.
Editors Online
"Editors Only is a resource for publication editors. We offer content geared toward every aspect of the editorial process, from grammar to copyright issues to editorial management." They also have a place for classified ads, including Help Wanted, Positions Sought, and Freelancers.

CubReporters.org
...established by Mark Grabowski, a journalism professor at Adelphi University in Long Island, this site is targeted towards young journalists (but more experience folks may find it useful too). Beyond the advice on preparing for this career and how to find work, you'll find numerous listings of and links to sources for jobs, internships, and fellowships in print, online, and broadcast media. Quite a nice resource.
Investigative Reporters and Editors, Inc.
"The mission of Investigative Reporters and Editors is to foster excellence in investigative journalism, which is essential to a free society." This grassroots nonprofit organization was founded in 1975 to improve the quality of investigative reporting. Among the many resources and training opportunities provided by IRE, the Job Center is a great list of openings for reporters, editors, and others in both print and broadcast journalism. IRE also hosts listings of fellowships, scholarships, and other awards.
J-Jobs, Journalism-Related Job Openings
...J-Jobs is a service to the journalism community provided by the University of California at Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. Jobs are posted as received, but during busy academic periods might only get updated once a week and are removed after about thirty days. Internship listings are considered permanent, but they do try to verify them each year.
Job Listings from Poynter Online
The Poynter Institute is a school for journalists, future journalists, and teachers of journalism. Their website, includes advice for current, future, and returning journalists and offers you the ability to search for jobs posted here. Quite a good resource for journalists at all levels of experience, including those who left the field and want to return.
Religion Newswriters Association
... an organization of full and part-time writers dedicated to supporting for journalists writing about any topic related to religion. Persons interested in entering this field will appreciate the FAQs, the scholarship information, and the newsroom training resources. Any writer who happens to be covering a story that includes references to religion will also appreciate the FAQs and other resources available to assist with their work.
South Asian Journalists Association
Formed in March 1994, "SAJA serves as a networking and resource forum for journalists of South Asian origin and journalists interested in South Asia or the South Asian diaspora. Its mission includes acting as a resource to facilitate and promote thorough, accurate coverage of South Asia and the South Asian diaspora, including South Asians in North America." There are some nice resources here along with the information. If you are interested in fellowships / scholarships, they have information on programs they offer as well as links to other sources. Persons seeking employment can look at the resources listed under JobBank (good list), but actual job listings submitted to SAJA are distributed to paying members via enewsletter only. Dues are very low!
State Press Associations
Provided by the Newspaper Association of America, this list provides contact information (and website links) for all state and regional press associations across the US. Each one offers something a little different, but they are all the same in that they will connect you with the print (and usually online) news outlets for their locations.

Authentic Jobs
Jobs for tech designers and developers, including UI, content, front/back/app development, and info architecture. These include internships, contract, freelance, and full time opportunities. Note that under "Country" he has 2 settings -- UK and "Everywhere" (mostly US). When you click on the "Apply Now" button, you will be generating an email to send to the organization who posted the job. Nice, slick, easy to use, and great jobs!
Bubble Jobs
Headquartered in Cheshire, Bubble Jobs is a central resource for digital, e-commerce, online, social media and internet marketing jobs in the UK, Australia and across Europe (plus a bit farther). It is easy to use (either search by keyword or browse by region or job group), and free for job seekers. You will need to create an account in order to apply for jobs found here, but you can use your LinkedIn or Facebook accounts if you want. Once you have registered, you can make your CV private if you desire, but before you register take a look around their terrific collection of opportunities, and check the blog for job search tips, etc.
ContentWise Job Board
...a job board for those involved in creating, producing, and delivering an organization's content. A service of McMurry, a marketing services company.
Filcro Media Staffing
...a retained executive search firm specializing in broadcasting, entertainment, communications and media executive search. "We provide recruitment services in every business, technical and creative environment within our respective practice groups." They conduct searches in every major media market around the world, and their clients include major TV networks, radio networks, cable TV networks, any almost anyone involed in media in any way. You can review their priority Search Roster or look over their full public search list to see if they are currently conducting a search for which you are an excellent fit and submit a resume for consideration. They will also accept unsolicited resumes, but in both cases they do have specific formats and information they prefer.
Mashable Jobs
...a job board for social media and web jobs. Mashable is the world’s largest blog focused exclusively on Web 2.0 and Social Media news. While the board says it is powered by Simply Hired, I could not duplicate my results there, so if this is an area you want to target in your search for work, utilize this board.

Publishing & Bookselling

Bookcareers.com
..."an independent careers and coaching organisation specialising in the book and publishing industries. It is run by Suzanne Collier, who has 25 years practical experience of book publishing and who has spent 20 of those years giving confidential career management advice and helping people through times of change." She offers unregistered visitors many articles on various careers in books, how to recover from "redundancy" (layoffs, in US terms), and workplace difficulties. She also has a CV Clearing House where bookish types can post CVs (this is a UK site) and a small list of job vacancies. Registration is required to post your resume or read the full info for any vacancies and submit applications, but it is free. Under "Bookselling as a Career" she includes a nice list of The Major Employers. Check out her results of the Salary Survey she conducts every few years. She is compiling the most current data right now (2008).

"bookjobs.com was created to aid in the recruiting of the best and the brightest college graduates around the country—graduates from all ethnic and social backgrounds and all areas of study. The site serves two purposes: to provide a centralized place for job seekers to research available positions throughout the publishing industry, and to provide basic information about the book publishing industry as a whole." This is a marvelous site for anyone interested in the publishing industry. Experienced job seekers will like the lists of Company Profiles and Publishing Organizations (with links to websites). Young job seekers will appreciate the job listings and industry information. Current college students will appreciate the internship listings and industry / job information. Anyone uncertain on the whole thing will enjoy perusing the entire site, including the Major / Department guide, a short list of where you might best fit based on your college education, and the list of institutions offering various Publishing Programs. A truly great offering from the Association of American Publishers.
Evangelical Christian Publishers Association Career Center
...job and resume board for the Christian publishing industry. Job seekers can search the database, review job announcements, and even apply for positions without registering (be sure you select the right option under "Resume Confidentiality"). While we saw very few jobs at the time of review, the main ECPA website offers many additional resources for job seekers, including a list of members with links to their websites.
Publisher's Weekly
...the "international news source of book publishing and bookselling." In the online companion to their print publication, you'll find weekly updates on news affecting this industry along with other services and resources you can use. Select "Industry Resources" to access the PWJobZone and review all the jobs or just those in your particular field.
Semper International
...a staffing agency specializing in the print, copy, and digital industries. To review job listings, select a regional office and then select a job area that interests you. At the time of review, they listed jobs in bindery, duplicating, large press, pre-press digital, silkscreen, and other areas.
Bookbuilders of Boston
... a "nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing together people involved in book publishing and manufacturing throughout New England." Their website is an excellent resource for interested users, featuring information on education and training opportunities, resources for the industry, and a job bank.

Science Writing

National Association of Science Writers
This organizations works to "foster the dissemination of accurate information regarding science through all media normally devoted to informing the public." Above all, NASW fights for the free flow of science news. Much of the best content is reserved for members (dues are dirt cheap!), but they do have have a nice FAQ for New and Aspiring Science Writers along with links to regional groups and other journalism associations, all open to visitors.
Council for the Advancement of Science Writing
The Council for the Advancement of Science Writing (CASW) is committed to improving the quality of science news reaching the public. Visitors can learn about careers in Science Writing and apply for funding to assist with graduate studies in this field.
Society of Environmental Journalists
The mission of the Society of Environmental Journalists is to advance public understanding of environmental issues by improving the quality, accuracy, and visibility of environmental reporting. The website offers numerous links to resources for people in this field, including links to job resources and their free daily news listings and other publications. These publications give you a nice feel for the kinds of reporting these journalists pursue.

Organization of Black Screenwriters
"The Organization of Black Screenwriters, Inc. (OBS) began in 1988 to address the lack of black writers represented within the entertainment industry. Our primary function is to assist screenwriters in the creation of works for film and television and to help them present their work to the industry." Their site includes information on screenwriting competitions, workshops, seminars, and upcoming meetings. There are also resources on scriptwriting resources, job opportunities, and an online forum where you can ask about screenwriting, offer advice to others, or post announcements.
